Are you passionate about helping young students build confidence and reach their academic potential? Novastar Prep is seeking a dedicated in-home NGAT Math Tutor to work 1:1 with a motivated rising third-grade student in Vienna, VA.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced elementary educator or tutor who enjoys working with younger students and can make math and quantitative reasoning engaging through visual, hands-on, and interactive instruction.

Assignment Details

• Subject: Math / NGAT Quantitative Reasoning
• Student: Rising 3rd Grade
• Location: In-home tutoring in Vienna, VA 
• Start Date: Week of August 10, 2026
• Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday after 5:00 PM ET
• Format: 1:1, in-person tutoring
• Commitment: Consistent weekly availability preferred

About the Student

The student is a motivated rising third-grade student whose primary academic objective is to strengthen his understanding of the concepts assessed on the Naglieri General Ability Test (NGAT), with a particular focus on the quantitative reasoning section.

He demonstrates strong academic potential and responds especially well to visual and kinesthetic learning approaches, including diagrams, graphic representations, hands-on activities, movement, and active learning experiences.

The ideal tutor will be patient, encouraging, and supportive, as the student is naturally quiet and reserved and may need additional time to feel comfortable participating and expressing his ideas. A tutor who can create a positive learning environment, build his confidence, and encourage him to take academic risks will be especially well suited for this assignment.

Who We're Looking For

• Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant field.
• Experience: At least 1 year of tutoring or teaching experience; experience working with elementary-aged students is strongly preferred.
• NGAT/Quantitative Reasoning: Familiarity with the Naglieri General Ability Test, quantitative reasoning, or experience preparing students for similar assessments is preferred.
• Teaching Approach: Ability to use visual, hands-on, and interactive instructional strategies to engage young learners.
• Communication: Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to build rapport with students and adapt to different learning styles.
• Reliability: Ability to commit to a consistent weekly schedule.
• Transportation: Reliable transportation is required for in-home tutoring.
• Technology: Basic computer literacy is required, as some teaching tools and resources may be digital.
• Commitment: Willingness to commit to at least one semester.
• Background Check: Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Ideal Candidates Will Also:

• Have experience tutoring or teaching elementary-aged students.
• Enjoy working with quiet or reserved students and know how to build confidence gradually.
• Be patient, encouraging, and skilled at creating a supportive learning environment.
• Be comfortable using diagrams, manipulatives, games, movement, and other hands-on activities to teach math concepts.
• Have experience with NGAT preparation, gifted education, or quantitative reasoning.
• Be able to provide consistent availability on Monday, Wednesday, and/or Thursday evenings.
